The secret sauce to plus size boudoir posing may surprise you, but it’s not as surprising as you may think. In this post, I’ll also share some plus-size boudoir posing tips and ideas to help you slay those at-home boudoir poses for your selfies too!
The Secret to Plus Size Boudoir Posing: It Doesn’t Exist
As a plus-size woman, you may feel self-conscious about your body and unsure of how to pose for a boudoir photoshoot and that is completely normal. But the truth is, boudoir photography is for everyone, no matter what your size or shape. I pose all of my clients the same way, no matter what. Of course, there are small changes I make with each client to help minimize certain aspects they’d rather have concealed in their boudoir photos. However, everything else is the exact same!
One of my biggest beliefs as a Michigan boudoir photographer is that every body is a boudoir body, including my plus-size queens! Your plus-size body is no more or less worthy than any other body shape or size. Every body is beautiful and worthy of love and celebration, including yours! Boudoir is an opportunity to celebrate your body, embrace your curves, and feel confident and beautiful in your own skin.
At Home Plus Size Boudoir Posing Tips for Plus Size Women
If you are thinking of putting together a little at-home spicy boudoir selfie session for yourself, here are a few tips and tricks for plus-size boudoir posing.
1. Embrace your curves. Your body is beautiful, and your boudoir photos should showcase that. So don’t be afraid to flaunt your curves and show off your natural shape.
2. Experiment with angles. Try shooting from different angles, such as from below or from the side, to find the most flattering perspective for your body. I always recommend a 45 degree angle to the camera. This will showcase your your chest, the natural curve of your torso and hip, and show off that booty too!
3. Play with lighting. Lighting can make a big difference in your at-home boudoir photos. Try taking photos near a window or in a room that’s well-lit. Create a triangle between you, the light source and your camera. This will give you the best lighting scenario for highlights and shadows in your photos, especially if you are using the 45 degree angle tip! You can also experiment with backlighting (the light directly behind you) to highlight your curves.
4. Don’t be afraid to show some skin. Boudoir photography is all about embracing the skin you’re in, so don’t be afraid to show some skin! Choose outfits that make you feel comfortable and sexy, doll yourself up and just have fun trying different poses.
5. Give yourself grace looking through the photos. Not every photo will be the best thing ever – trust me, even I delete most selfies I take! So, find the handful of photos that make you say “damn, that’s hot” and save those!
